Reply from God

There are times in life when nothing goes one’s way. Everyone else seems to be plotting against him and he tends to feel miserable. He gets a feeling that why,in the whole world,  he is the sole victim. Everyone seems to be leading a perfect life and that makes him even more miserable. This vicious cycle doesn’t stop until something really wonderful happens to him.

Same was my case a few days back. Nothing was working fine. I was losing hope that everything would ever be perfect. That was the time when I started cursing god for all the difficulties I was facing. Though I knew, I myself was responsible for all the mess I had created, I put the entire blame on him . I asked him “Why me? “.  I didn’t knew that I would get the answer the very next day!!

Next day, I had a mock Test. I reached the center early but soon, I realised that I forgot to carry the pencil. I went to a stationary shop near the center, which  to my surprise and relief was open(It was a Sunday) The shopkeeper was a young guy, around 20 year old. I asked for the pencil. He smiled and gave me a half filled pad and a half empty pen and then gestured something with his hands. I was a little taken aback but I composed myself and patiently told him ” No, no I don’t need pad or pen. I need a pencil.  ” He pointed to the pad and continued  gesturing something with his hands. This time, I lost my temper and said “leave it”. As I was about to leave the shop a fellow customer, who was perhaps a regular customer of that shop looked at me and said ” He is deaf and mute and he is telling you to write on that pad what you need.”

For a moment, I was dumbstruck. The man for whom I looked disdainfully a moment back, I was now filled with a new respect.Anyways, I sheepishly wrote down in the pad and gave it to him. He took out a pencil from the box and gestured 3 with his fingers to suggest its price. I gave him the money, took the pencil and left the shop.

Even after I left the shop, this incident didn’t leave my mind. I  had met a man who refused to bow to the circumstances. He probably could have lost all hope and sat at home but he did not. His situation was definitely much worse what probably mine could ever be. He must be daily having to deal with impatient customers like me who are not able to understand his gestures. But still, with a smile on his face, he tries his best to make them understand.

Now, I realised what a fool I have been. That stranger shopkeeper  gave  me a new ray of hope. I learnt that unhappiness is  not caused by the adverse circumstances, but by the way you face them.

And yes, it didn’t take me long to realise that it was an answer from god. Or how else would you explain the sequence of events that I forgot my pencil, none of my friends had an extra pencil and the shop was open on Sunday. This time, I did not curse god but simply thanked him for giving me this wonderful life.
